Philip Macey

Background

Philip joined Staples Rodway as a graduate in 1995 and worked in both the Stratford and New Plymouth offices. He became a key member of the firm’s management team and was appointed to his Directorship in January 2006. Philip now heads the HR Consulting division and oversees 80 professional staff in the New Plymouth and Stratford offices, taking an active role in coaching and guiding all the team members in their development.

Philip provides Business Advisory Services to both farming and commercial clients and complementing this knowledge is an in-depth understanding of the bloodstock field. Born and raised in the Waikato, the equine capital of New Zealand, Phil grew up around horses, a background that allows him to provide expert equestrian business advice, such knowledge is a rare find anywhere south of Waikato.

Specialist Areas

Phil has specialist knowledge on all matters of bloodstock, including syndication, GST issues including the exporting of horses, tax information and general business management around breeding and training operations. Outside the bloodstock industry his focus is on helping small businesses grow. “I like to get alongside the business owner, working as part of their team to ensure they fulfil their financial and
non-financial goals”.

Personal Interests

Outside the office Phil undertakes voluntary roles based on his passion for cars and horses. He has been actively involved in the Taranaki Trotting Club for the past 10 years, and continues to race cars and train horses.
