Meet Our Management Team

Greg Brewerton
(CA, BMS, LLB)

Background

Greg holds professional qualifications in both accounting (CA) and law (barrister and solicitor of the High Court). He has been using both of those disciplines through specialising in tax since joining Staples Rodway in 2001. He has co-authored a number of articles for New Zealand and overseas publications and also for a number of professional and industry presentations.

Greg has a diverse client base and has advised a similarly wide category of clients from larger corporates and SMEs to individuals and not-for-profit entities.

Specialist Areas

Greg has spent significant time advising clients about their taxation liabilities on land transactions and ensuring income tax on those transactions is not triggered unnecessarily. This extends to obtaining binding rulings from the IRD to provide peace of mind for his clients. Interaction with the IRD is also a strong point for Greg with experience in liaising with the IRD in investigations, defending clients in disputes with the IRD and making voluntary disclosures on behalf of clients.

Greg also has expertise in restructuring businesses to maximise commercial and tax efficiencies through changing business trading and holding entities, company amalgamations and share buyouts.

Personal Interests

Greg is a keen hockey player and can often be found at the Hamilton hockey turf, rain, hail or shine. He also enjoys participating in a variety of other sports, including as an armchair critic. For evening pursuits, Greg likes to relax by watching a good movie.
