Maree Kempthorne

Background

Maree has been a Tax Partner at Staples Rodway since 2001, and is currently head of Tax. During her time with the firm, she was seconded to the firm’s affiliated firm in Melbourne and gained particular experience and expertise in trans Tasman tax matters.

Maree enjoys establishing a close working relationship with clients by working along side them to provide practical tax answers that fit the needs of her clients’ businesses.

Specialist Areas

Maree has over 18 years experience in all areas of tax, with specialised knowledge of corporate tax matters, particularly with regard to international tax. Her other main specialities are tax matters relating to high net worth individuals and trusts and the taxation of expatriates. Maree advises a broad range of clients across a range of industries including professional services, construction and manufacturing.

Maree is currently a member of:

- New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants and
- The International Fiscal Association
and a past member of:
- New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants Auckland Branch Tax Committee

Maree has also presented numerous times on tax related topics mainly for the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants and is co-author of the CCH book “Fringe Benefits – A Practical Guide to Managing your Tax Costs”. She has also been published many times in a number of publications.

Personal Interests

Maree and her husband live on a lifestyle block with three acres of garden on the outskirts of Auckland. She has a keen interest in art and landscape design and enjoys keeping fit with yoga and walking.
