Background
Stuart has been in public practice since 1989. He gained his Business Studies degree from Massey University graduating in 1977. Following five years with Deloitte in Wellington and London he settled in Hawkes Bay in 1982. He became a partner of Dent Robertson & Partners which merged with Staples Rodway, to form the current practice, in 2006.
Stuart is managing director of Staples Rodway Hawkes Bay Ltd and on the board of Staples Rodway New Zealand Ltd. He holds several other directorships and is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors. He also acts for several charitable trusts in trustee and/or secretarial capacities giving him wide experience in corporate governance practices. Specialist Areas
Stuart specialises in providing audit and assurance related services and heads the firm’s specialist audit team – one of the largest in Hawkes Bay. His client base is varied and representative of Hawkes Bay. It includes a substantial number of local financial institutions, several players in the winery and post harvest apple sector, Maori organisations and education providers. Stuart is a recognised wine verifier under the Wine Act. Personal Interests
In life away from the office Stuart enjoys travel (preferably overseas), socialising (wine, food and friends) and the great outdoors (currently half way through a project to complete New Zealand’s “eight great walks”). Stuart is married (with five increasingly independent children).

Stuart has significant experience in :
- The financial services sector, particularly for mutual organisations ensuring he is well versed in the financial reporting requirements for issuers including their obligations under the Securities Act.
- The retirement village sector and the requirements of the Retirement Villages Act.
- The education sector through his involvement on school boards and the audits of schools (on behalf of the Office of the Auditor General), pre school entities and tertiary level private training establishments.
- Corporate governance and trustee responsibilities in both personal and professional capacities.
- Charitable organisations.
